Buenas Tardes/Good Afternoon:

Early on Sunday morning, the Los Angeles Times Editorial Board published its “enthusiastic endorsement” of Kevin de León to be the next City Councilmember to represent LA’s 14th District. After detailing his plan to reduce the number of Angelenos experiencing homelessness in interviews with the LA Times, and in numerous community forums, the Editorial Board applauded his ideas to address his community’s most serious challenges:

“De León…has specific and achievable goals for the city and the district.”

Kevin de León spent the last 12 years representing the people of CD 14 and the surrounding areas – first as an Assembly member, as a Senator, and finally as Senate Leader. In their endorsement, the Los Angeles Times highlights de León’s proven talents as a policymaker and negotiator, and his knack for turning lofty goals into detailed solutions:

“De León’s particular strength is envisioning ambitious solutions to major problems, then building alliances and using his political savvy to get them adopted. As leader of the state Senate for four years, he wrote several important pieces of legislation, and helped turn them (and others) into law. Among them were landmark laws mandating an aggressive switch to renewable energy. That was a tough political battle that might well have been lost by a less capable lawmaker.”

With the March 3rd primary fast approaching, and as voters are already filling out their mail-in ballots, the Los Angeles Times Editorial Board’s endorsement is deeply meaningful. These are the voices responsible for holding our government accountable to serve the people of Los Angeles – and today they are calling on voters to send Kevin de León to City Hall.

¡Adelante!
